Do you know what you don't know?

"Where ego I go too."

That message, in the form of a lapel button, was bestowed on me decades ago by a co-worker who found my bravado a little, how should I say, annoying.

Naturally, some of that bravado serves us well as wholesalers.

In fact, our ego acts a defense shield against the naysayers and the endless stream of 'nos' we get day after day.

Over time, we hopefully get better at separating blind ego from simply knowing what we know and what we don't.

This is best explained by Warren Buffet's concept of The Circle of Competence.

Simply put, it's your ability to identify your areas of expertise and stick to them.

Staying within the circle allows you to profit (both literally and figuratively) from your considerable expertise.

Venturing beyond the circle is asking for unforced errors in your practice.
