He was determined.

And he was smart.

I'll give him that.

As a new(er) wholesaler, with his boss in tow, he was on a mission to impress.

Showing up at the advisor's office, he was armed for bear.

If there was a concept, white paper, fact sheet, or product brochure, he was ready to quote it and show it.

He would, if all else failed, pummel the advisor into submission -- or so he thought.

Only later in his career did he discover the elegance and power of asking more insightful questions and providing less irrelevant answers.

Seasoned, great wholesalers understand what Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "It is the province of knowledge to speak, and it is the privilege of wisdom to listen.”
