In an interview some years ago, Mr. Withers spoke about his upbringing and his rise from the working class to fame and fortune.
Unlike so many egomaniacal music legends, he said, "I never got into that entertainer thing".
When asked about how he'd like to be remembered, he cited the success of these songs and offered, "You’re remembered for the things that made the most noise."
