Simple, yet ingenious

Big ideas.

Sometimes they are as simple as they are ingenious.

From 1887 until 1993, Sears, Roebuck and Company sold anything and everything via its in-home catalog.

From tooth powder to build-your-own home kits delivered by rail car, they had it all.

And in the early 1900's, most homes in America had two catalogs to chose from, the other being Montgomery Ward.

So how did Richard Sears, a brilliant marketer, seek to compete?

Sears made his catalog a little less wide and a little less tall.

Why?

So that when the homemaker was tidying up the home they would naturally put the Sears catalog on top of the Montgomery Ward catalog.

Simple.

Ingenuous.

What's your next simple yet ingenious idea?
