Remember Marvin in the movie "Wall Street"?
Or Dr. Cox in the TV show "Scrubs"?
The actor behind both roles is John C. McGinley.
On a podcast he spoke about the audition process:
“Actors usually bring one of two things with them into an audition," he said.
"They usually either bring in 'Pigpen,' which if you remember Peanuts/Charlie Brown cartoons is the character that is always surrounded by a cloud of dust.
They walk into an audition and immediately subvert themselves, saying something like ‘My aunt died in Philadelphia last night so I had to take the train down there and I never got a chance to look at your script'.
That's Pigpen - he's out before anyone had the chance to give him a chance."
What's the second thing?
Elvis Dust.
“Elvis Dust is when you come in to audition with this strange combination of self-esteem, meets homework, meets right for the part, meets the audition room.
And when people bring in Elvis Dust all we wanna do is get it on us", he concluded.
Al Pacino had Elvis Dust. So did Paul Newman.
Every time you meet a new advisor or COI you are auditioning.
Are you bringing Pigpen or Elvis Dust?
