Via Negativa.

The negative way.

Simply put, it's placing the focus on what you don't do versus what you do in order to achieve positive outcomes.

For example, you could improve your current state of motivation and mind by committing to read a new self-help book.

Or you could lighten the mental load by removing yourself from the airwaves of negative chatter coming from your peers and achieve a similar effect.

You could obsessively focus on making more money year after year.

Or you could commit to reducing your household debt-load, thereby freeing up more capital to do the things that you'd like the money to do for you and your family.

Said another way, via negativa suggests we can win by not losing.

Great portfolio managers have clearly articulated selling strategies.

Great wholesalers know which advisors to see/prospect and, as importantly, who not to see.

“It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.” ~ Charlie Munger, Vice Chairman, Berkshire Hathaway.
